Abstract
556. Coward, W. H. Jan. 13. Roller-and-ring mills.-In a machine of the revolving-ring type, the ring 4 is conical and revolves on large ball bearings 5 in a fixed outer casing 1. The roller 8 is also conical. and its shaft, which is mounted in a spherical bearing 9 and thrust bearing 12, is driven as shown. The shaft works between vertical guides 15 and is pressed down by an adjustable spring 13. The material is fed in through a trough containing a worm conveyer 24, and the crushed material is removed from the roller and ring by a semicylindrical scraper, which throws it into a screen 29 revolving with the ring. It passes from the casing by outlets 31, 32.
