Screw and like propellers.-A spherical framework g, h rotating about a vertical axis on an airship carries within it a spiral lifting-surface b passed through holes in vanes a, and aerofoils c are mounted on the outside of the framework. Aerostats d, of sufficient strength to withstand centrifugal force, are arranged above the surface b The aerofoils c may be hinged and prevented from rising beyond their operative position by brackets extending from the frame. The framework g, h is connected to a hull or fuselage q by a link p with interposed ball bearings at either or both ends, the other end of the link being fixed to the fuselage or framework carries a series of brackets k having electrically-driven rollers m running on circular track n<1> supplied with current. Alternatively the rollers may be mounted in brackets on the fuselage and engage a track on the framework g, h. Instead of the link p, the spherical framework may rotate about a central column fixed to the fuselage, or a series of brackets on the fuselage may carry rollers engaging an undercut ring on the framework.
