Abstract
23,124. Williams, E. Nov. 26. Rolling; rolling nails. -Levers, links, railwayspikes, cotters, keys, &c. are shaped between a reciprocating die and a roll oscillating in contact therewith and driven from the die through racks and teeth on the roll. The bar d is placed in the die c against a stop l, which is turned out of the way when the operation commences. The die c is moved to the right by a crank driven through a one-revolution clutch, the roll a with its die face b being rotated through the rack h. At the end of the stroke, the bar d is released by the engagement of the lever f with a stop g, thus withdrawing the side c. This side is replaced by a second stop on the return movement. The die is adjusted by a wedge m and screw n, and the roll may have a projection for almost or quite severing the article from the bar. In the case of tapered work, the rack h may be inclined and engage an eccentric pinion.
