Stiffeners.-The upright portion 1 and the flange 2 of a counter or toe stiffener consist of separate and distinct pieces of leather or like material, as distinguished from metal or other resilient material, the edges of which are secured by stitches &c. 3 passing through a butted or @ bevelled joint. The flange 2 may be formed from the material removed by skiving the upper end 4 of the portion 1.
