Abstract

17,929. Thabaud, M., and Collins, R. F. July 29, 1913, [Convention date]. Clutches, friction.-In Weston plate clutches, the core on which the inner plates slide is formed from sheet metal pressed to the required shape, and is secured to the presser plate, thus forming part of the operating-gear for the clutch. The outer plates D slide within teeth on a sheetmetal liner c<1> secured to the driving casing C. The inner plates E engage teeth f<1> formed on a core F pressed to the shape shown from a band of sheet metal, the edges of which are united by dovetailing and soldering. The core fits upon the polygonal exterior of the hollow driven shaft G with, if desired, the interposition of a strengthening-liner. Lugs f<4> on the core F are secured to the presser-plate J, and lugs f<3> to an operating-collar H sliding in the end c<2> of the casing C for the purpose of compressing the clutch springs K arranged within the teeth f<1>. A ball thrust bearing k<3> is provided for the springs. The outer end g<2> of the shaft G is provided with ribs for engagement with the driven shaft. The casing contains oil.
