3170. Windemuller, J. H. Feb. 8, 1913, [Convention date]. Ball-and-socket joints. -A ball joint, particularly for gas pendants in which one side of the packing-space is formed by a separate member 11, has a flange-like enlargement 12 on this member, which fits and is pressed against the ball 4 under the pressure of the packing 13, adjusted by a nut 9. In a modification, the nut 9 is omitted and is replaced by an inturned flange at the mouth of the socket. The packing is compressed indirectly by a ring bearing against the upper side of the ball and screwed into the other end of the socket, which is internally cylindrical throughout.
