Sacks and like bays, weaving; tubular fabrics; pleating, weaving to facilitate.-In weaving tubular fabrics, or sacks or bags, or fabrics therefor, additional weft or warp threads or strings are inserted to constitute means for drawing up or otherwise closing the open ends of the tubular fabrics or the mouths of the sacks &c. In the case of tubular fabrics or sacks woven tubular with singly-woven bottomclosing portions 3, Fig. 1, an additional weft 4 is inserted at the desired parts and allowed to float between these parts. 'When the sacks are woven with transverse singly-woven portions 3, Fig. 3<a>, and with the open mouths at one side, two or more picks of additional weft 4 are inserted in each portion 3, and when the sacks are separated, the wefts 4 are drawn out to tie up the corners of the sack in ear fashion and, if desired, to serve for sewing up the mouth. When the sacks are woven with the length thereof in the direction of the warp, the fastening-threads are inserted as warp. Sacks woven as shown in Fig. 3<a> or in two series side by side may have draw-strings 4, Fig. 5, inserted as warp, loops being drawn out at the singlywoven portions 3, or when the sacks are woven lengthways in several series with longitudinal and transverse singly-woven portions, the strings may be inserted as weft in the manner shown in Fig. 1. Fabrics, intended to be doubled longitudinally and sewn to form sacks &c., have the draw-strings inserted as warp near each selvedge.
