729. Jones, W., and Jones & Attwood. Jan. 10. Aerating.-Apparatus for the purification of sewage or other impure water by aerating, agitating, and circulating it consists of an annular or curved tank A, Figs. 1 and 2, or a continuous channel with one or more " dip " or sunk portions B or pipes, through which the liquid and its suspended matters fall and are raised again by compressed air admitted at the bottom of the dip-chamber B. The air may be broken up into small bubbles by a diffuser E. The wall D may be curved at the top so as to direct the liquid to the best advantage. Clear liquid may be drawn off at an opening H or M, and sludge from below at openings J, P. Cross-walls L for giving clear liquid may be provided.
