Abstract

Drag anchors.- A stability device for boats, rafts, and like life - saving appliances comprises a cradle open at the top and supported at a suitable depth in the water by ropes and chains attached to the boat &c. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a tubular frame a is provided with canvas sides b laced to the frame and secured to the rigid bottom c. The bottom c is provided with flap valves d, the movement of which is limited by stops e. The bottom of the device may also be provided with pockets f formed with tabs at the bottom. The device is supported at the required depth by means of wire ropes h attached to cleats on the boat. Instead of being attached directly to the boat, the ropes may be attached to one or more runners j, Fig. 4, mounted on one or more ropes k passing transversely under the boat.
