Abstract

25,706. Shaw, H. S. Hele-, and Beacham, T. E. Nov. 10. Air vessels.-In hydraulic power transmission apparatus especially as applied to locomotives, an equalizing cylinder is employed for taking up the difference in the volume delivered by the pump and that received by the motor cylinders during a single crank revolution. In Fig. 2, the passage 11 is shown inserted into the supply pipe, the pressure liquid acting on the piston 12 carried by the rod 8 of the valve 9, and also on the piston 7 of the equalizing cylinder. Air is supplied through the valve 14, say from the Westinghouse brake system, its pressure within the cylinder 5 varying with the load on the valve 9. The piston 6, 7 thus occupies the same mean position in the cylinder whatever the working pressure may be.
