Abstract
21,274. Ravinet, H., and Hedemann, E. Sept. 20, Feeding webs.-In a machine for affixing postage stamps, labels, &c., the operating parts for the moistening of the surface to which the stamp &c. is to be affixed, the feeding of the stamps &c., the detachment of a stamp &c. from a strip and its affixing to the moistened part, are all mounted on a single lever and are adapted to be operated by the simple depression of the lever. The lever A, Fig. 1, made from a single piece of sheet metal, is suspended by its side cheeks 6 from a shaft 5 secured to the framework, and has a projection 10 carrying a roller 11 on which the strip 12 of stamps is mounted, a spring 8 secured to a projection 7 on the lever and to the framework normally holding the parts in the position shown. The strip 12 is fed forwards by means of a comb or brush formed of flexible metallic wires 53 adapted to engage a row of perforations and adjustably mounted on a curved part 50, Figs. 1 and 3, of a carriage 44 slidably mounted on a plate 41 secured to the lever A by means of a key 43 and resting on up-turned edges 14 formed on a straight part 15 of the lever. Studs 45 on the carriage are adapted to engage slots 46 in cheeks 47 fixed to the framework.
