Blast apparatus.-An exhaust nozzle for attachment to the blast-pipes of locomotives consists of a circular tapered wall a with an inner depending wall b having ports c, which are controlled by a vertically-movable sleeve d supported by bolts f. Steam passes through the ports c to join the main body of steam passing through the nozzle until, by any cause, the pressure of steam accumulates sufficiently to raise the sleeve d and close the ports c, whereupon the whole of the steam passes through the centre aperture of the sleeve d. A decrease of pressure allows the sleeve d to fall and uncover the ports c.
