Abstract

16,638. Brinkman, L. H. Jan. 11, [Convention date]. Flexible metal tubes, helically corrugated, are made by pressing upon the tube along a helical line at a progressively shifting short portion of the tube and simultaneously producing a twisting of the metal, which is localized by a plain mandrel to the short shifting portion, the twist of the metal being of greater pitch, as shown at 52, Fig. 6, than the pitch of the corrugations. The corrugations may engage the mandrel as the tube leaves the die to form a tube as shown in Fig. 6, or a few corrugations distan@ from the die to form a tube as shown in Fig. 7. The corrugations may be bent laterally during formation to produce tubes as shown in Figs 5, 8, and 9.
