Doors, wagon.-A fall-down door, or hinged side or end, of a railway wagon or other vehicle is secured in the closed position by a strut hinged at one end to a fixed part of the wagon, preferably below the door hinge, and connected at its other end to the door or door hinge so that the door and strut can turn together about their axes, a fastening or locking device being operatively mounted on the strut between its ends to hold it and the door in the closed position. The strut may be hinged to the bracket to which the door hinge is connected. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the strut n and hinge strap c are hinged to a bracket a fixed to the sole bar b. The uppei end of the strut is slidably connected to the strap c by means of lugs p, Fig. 3, engaging flanges d on the strap c. The fastening comprises a cylindrical member u, Figs. 1 and 5, pivoted to the strut and adapted to engage a hook k on the bracket a. The central part of the member u is cut away so that, when it is rotated by means of a weighted handle s, it is released from the hook to enable the door and strat to be turned down. When the door is closed, the member u engages automatically with the hook. In a modification, the strut is in two parts, the outer ends being pivoted respectively to the bracket a and to the hinge strap c and the inner ends being pivotally connected by a fastening device as described above.
