Abstract
15,279. Frame, J. July 2, 1912, [Convention date]. Tidal and wave energy, utilizing. - A shaft 13 is continuously rotated by the float 7 of a wave mill through a rack 10 mounted on the float. The rack drives a pinion 14, Figs. 2 and 3, freely mounted on the shaft and integral with a bevel-wheel 15 which through pawl gearing acts on a ratchet-wheel 17 keyed to the power shaft 13, which is thereby rotated on the upward movement of the rack. Bevel-gearing 27 couples the first bevel 15 with a second bevel 23 also free on the shaft and driving by oppositely-directioned pawls a second ratchet gear 29 keyed on the shaft. The shaft is thus rotated in the same direction by both movements of the rack. The tide also acts like the waves in producing a rotation of the shaft. A battery of such units may be coupled to one shaft.
