Acids, distilling.-The nitric acid vapours obtained in the distillation of waste acids containing volatile organic substances are caused to impinge on water or dilute nitric acid contained in an open vessel so as to separate the organic substances contained in them. The apparatus comprises a funnel-shaped conduit 1 dipping into water or acid in an open vessel 2, and the unabsorbed gases pass away through a discharge conduit 3, and may be treated in one or more similar apparatus before absorption in a condensation plant in the usual way.
