Ends; opening by cutting.-The metal top b, Fig. 1, of a can a, of the type which is doubleseamed to the can body to produce a surface flush with the walls of the can so as to receive a slip lid d, is scored or partly cut through as close to the seam as possible. In making the double seam, the body is set inwards at 1, Fig. 4, and its edge is flanged outwards at 2. A flange 3 of the lid b is folded under the flange of the body, and both are folded against the inset portion of the body, as shown in Fig. 1.
