2678. Escreet, H. Feb. 1. Overlap joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer pipe or sleeve.-In a hose or pipe-coupling in which the pipes 1, 2, Fig. 1, are secured between an inner screw-threaded coned member 3 and external nuts 11, 12, the member 3 and nuts 11, 12 are provided with one or more annular grooves 6, 7, 15, 16, respectively, which extend close up to the screwthreads 8, 9 and into which the flexible or other pipes 1, 2 are compressed The nuts are provided with holes 17, 18 and with flats for screwing them on or off the member 3, and the member 3 has also a central portion 10 of hexagonal or other shape for use with a spanner &c. A joint of this character is also described for connecting a pipe to a rigid pipe, nozzle, rose, &c. The edges of the parts may he rounded to prevent cutting of the pipes. The joints are applicable to water pipes, connexions for bicycle pumps, lead-pipe couplings, &c Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 6076/95, 17,779/98, and 21,642/11.
