Abstract
28,847. Pregardien, P. Dec. 14, 1911, [Convention date]. Hot-blast stoves.-A tubular regenerator for heating the blast and combustion air which is supplied to the Cowper apparatus of blast furnaces, and of the kind comprising vertical tubes connected at the top to superposed inlet and exhaust blast-chambers, consists of a blast inlet chamber 1 and exhaust chamber 2, situated as shown in Fig. 1, the inlet chamber being provided with a tube-plate 3 to which are secured rows of U-tubes 4. One branch of each U-tube is extended upwards through the lower chamber 1 and is connected to the tubeplate 5 which forms a partition between the chambers 1 and 2. Pipe connexions 7, 8 are provided on the chambers 1, 2 for admitting and withdrawing the blast. The lower ends of the tubes may be connected by cross-tubes 9 as shown in Fig. 3. A modification is shown in Fig. 6 in which the tube-plate 5 is inclined. This arrangement facilitates the connecting-up of two sets of air-heating tubes by comparatively large passages.
