Abstract
21,278. Price, S. L. Sept. 18. Centrifugal governors.-The invention relates to centrifugally-operated friction clutches particularly applicable for driving dynamos. Balls or weights h move in a cage g carried by the driven shaft a and bear upon levers j, which have arms k disengaging the cones b, d on excessive speed. The arms k may act centrifugally to assist the action. A ratchet clutch o, p may be interposed between the cone b and the shaft a or within the driving-member. With this form, when the clutch is used for driving a dynamo for charging accumulators, if the speed of the driving-part d falls, the dynamo becomes a motor driven by the accumulators, and the shaft a speeds up and overruns the cone b so that the centrifugal parts disengage the clutch. The clutches may be combined with retracting - devices of the kind described in Specification 13,555/11, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.]. An extension of the driving-member may form a casing.
