Abstract

Pivot adjustments; spring hinges.-Pivot fittings for looking-glasses comprise a ratchet fixed to one of the trunnions, a pawl for engaging the ratchet to hold the glass in adjusted position, and a spring for returning the glass to a predetermined position when the pawl is released. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the spring I is attached at one end to the ratchet D and is retained between stops J, K on the pawl F. When the pawl is released by pressing the boss L, the glass returns until a shoulder on the ratchet engages a fixed stop H on the frame C. A second shoulder M limits the movement of the glass to prevent fracture of the spring. An additional spring N acting upon the stop K may be provided. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the pawl f is released by pressing the boss n of a pivoted frame m carrying an arm l which bears against a spring arm i having its lower end fixed and its upper end forked to engage the pawl f.
