Hinges.-In order to take up wear in the hinge of a retort door, the hinge-pin is mounted in sockets which are so fitted in oblong holes in the hinge lugs that they may be moved in a direction parallel to the mouth of the retort. The flanged sockets b on the ends of the hingepin a fit in oblong holes d<1> in the lugs on the cross-bar f, and are adapted to be moved in the holes by screws g, h.
