Piston apparatus for discharging receptacles.-A container for semisolid and pasty substances, such as lubricants, soap, vaseline, b u t t e r, and cosmetics, is provided with a piston 6 connected by a band 9 with a portion 15 of a spring 16 coiled about a shaft 10. By turning the shaft in one direction by means of the handle 12, the coils of the spring grip the shaft and the piston is raised to force the contents out through registering apertures in the mouth 4 and cover 5. When the shaft is turned in the opposite direction, the coils open out and cease to grip the shaft. The shaft 10 can then be moved endways so that its handle does not project beyond the body of the container.
