9868. Longstaff, J. April 25. Envelopes. - The tongue e of the closing- flap a is gummed on both sides, and, after passing through slots h, g, f in the bottom and side flaps d, c, b, respectively, is secured between the innermost flap b and folded-back extension on the bottom flap. In the case of large envelopes, the extension j may be provided on one of the side flaps, or may be replaced by a strip of material attached to the innermost flap. The tongue e may be stiffened, and may be provided with a tab p to facilitate insertion, the tab being torn off after use. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 20,476/95 and 4986/09.
