Abstract
7851. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, G. T. April 1. Sights and methods of sighting.-Relates to automatic sights, for garrison guns, of the kind having a rotary elevating-cam in the form of a drum, transverse sections of which correspond to various tidal heights, According to the invention, the cam, carried by the cradle, is rotated by a curved rack fixed to the guncarriage and co-operates with the rear portion (or apex) of a flat triangular sight-bracket. The triangular sight-bracket C is pivoted, by downwardly-extending arms C', to the trunnions T, and at its rear end rests upon the rotary elevating-cam E, carried by a bracket E' on the cradle. A pinion E<5> on the cam-spindle gears with the fixed rack F, so that, as the gun is elevated or depressed, the cam is automatically rotated. For tide corrections, the cam is displaced laterally upon its axis, by bevel and screw and nut gearing actuated by a handwheel E<2>. A scale G indicates the amount of the correction.
