4812. Yates, J. H. Feb. 26. Valve chests and casings.-In a draining- device for a cylinder or valve-chest, escape of steam before the water has been discharged is prevented by a plate d, Fig. 1, over the discharge orifice b or by bent tubes c<1>, c<2>, Figs. 4 and 5. The plate d is formed on a plug c which screws into the discharge passage b. The plate d may be dish-shaped, or may be flat, as shown, iu which case the passage b is countersunk to uncover the openings e in the plug c. Fig. 4 illustrates the use of a U-tube c<1>, and Fig. 5 shows a pipe c<2> with one or more branches having perforations c<3> in their lower surfaces.
