2601. Marr, A. T. Feb. 1. Sleeve joints with inner pipe gripped by packing; couplings with bolts and flanges.-Relates to joints of the type in which plain pipes are connected by a sleeve, packing being compressed against the recessed end of the sleeve by loose recessed flanges drawn tight by bolts and nuts, and consists in applying this type of joint to connecting tubes of different diameters. A reducing socket or sleeve a, Fig. 1, engages recessed flanges d drawn up by bolts (not shown) to compress packing-rings e, so that they grip the pipes b, b<1>.
