Plug cocks.-A rotary cylindrical valve 1 for controlling both the inlet and exhaust of internal-combustion and other engines has the inlet and exhaust ports in the valve casing provided with seatings A, B, pressed against the valve by springs, and the valve is fitted with packing-rings at each side of the port seatings so as to enclose these in an axially gastight section of the valve casing. There may be a similar seating C in the cylinder port 11, and this seating is flared at the upper end so as to be balanced as regards end-pressure. The seatings A, B, C are fitted with packing-rings. The valve 1 is hollow and water-cooled, and runs on ball-bearings.
