Abstract

191,192. Wake, J. F. Oct. 14, 1921. Furnace fire-places; ash-pits.-A furnace, which may be portable, for supplying heated air for softening tar macadam &c., comprises an outer casing 4 surrounding a fire-chamber 5 of refractory material and forming an air-space 9 through which air is delivered by a fan 46 to the fire-grate 10. The top of the fire-chamber is covered by refractory material 25, provided with a central hole 27 closed by a bell 32 and leading from a fuel hopper 29. A chimney 30 is formed integral with the hopper 29 and is provided with a damper 41. Heated air is led from the chimney 30 through a cock 44 and flexible pipe 43 to a nozzle 45. A conical ash-hopper 17 is formed below the grate 10, its outlet 18 being controlled by a bell 19 operated by the lever 20, which is held in position by the quadrant 24. A coal receptacle 53 is provided on the chassis 1.
