Abstract

Butter cutters; stream-cutting machines.-A machine for subdividing butter into portions cf predetermined size comprises a bed 1, a table 3 slidably mounted upon the bed and operable by a screw 14, and a cutting-frame 6 fitted with a series of transverse cutting-wires. The block of butter 4 is placed between stops 13 upon the table 3 and forced through the cutters to sever it into slabs, which are then placed on end and severed into rolls by reversing the table. The frame 6 consists of a #-shaped member of channel iron, which is supported in guides 7 and rests on lugs 8. Slots 18 are formed in the opposite sides of the frame to accommodate nipples 9, Fig. 3, and bolts 10 to which the cutting-wires are attached. The wires are tightened by nuts 11 working on the bolts 10 and are adjustable within the slots 18, being clamped in position by cross-bolts 19. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the distance between the wires is adjusted by pivoting the frame 6 and adjusting its inclination by means of pins 26 engaging holes 27 in a quadrant 25. In this modification, the table 3 works over a bed 22 which is carried by links 24 and also pivoted to the frame 6 at 23. According to the Provisional Specification, the table may be fixed and the cutters movable; also interchangeable cutting-frames may be provided,
