Abstract

Ironing-machines with reciprocating iron and stationary table. - In machines wherein an iron is reciprocated above a table raised and lowered as required, clutches are provided between the driving - shaft and the iron and table so that either alone may be operated or both may be actuated in such a way as to produce a one-way ironing effect The iron 2 is reciprocated in guides 16 by a fork 15 which loosely engages a rod 17 on the iron to provide a dwell at the end of each stroke, and is driven from the shaft 5 through gear-wheels 6 7 and a clutch 8 controlled by a pedal 48. The table 20 is slidable transversely on a supporting-bracket 21 which carries adjustably a roller 26 resting on an eccentric 25. On the sleeve 42 of the eccentric is a spring-controlled wedge adapted to engage a recess in the gear-wheel 6. When the pedal 33 is depressed. levers 38 are moved so as to withdraw cams 40 from co - operation with the wedge, and the eccentric is continuously driven. On releasing the pedal, the cams return into contact with the eccentric sleeve and cause the withdrawal of the wedge so that the table stops in one of its extreme positions. The pedal 49, when depressed, forces both the other pedals down so that continual movements of the iron and table take place and the article is ironed in one direction only.
