Abstract

20,267. Mitchell, A. H. Sept. 12. Jib cranes.-Comprises a jib crane in which the load and the centre of gravity of the jib remain at a constant level when the jib is luffed. The lower end of the jib carries a pulley g and slides in vertical guides in the crane-post. The jib is supported by a link c which is pivoted to the crane-post at d and to the jib at b, the length of the link and the distance b-g being each equal to a quarter of the length of the jib. The hoisting-line passes from the load over the pulleys f, g, of the jib to the hoisting- ram. The jib is luffed by a ram l acting on its lower end. Under these conditions, the load and the central point of the jib remain at a constant level during luffing. Any desired variation in the travel of the load may be obtained by altering the proportions of the various parts. Specification 8607/02 is referred to.
