Abstract
19,071. Michaud, G. Aug. 25. Folding bedsteads; joints and connexions.- A stretcher, which may also be used as a bed, comprises metallic side tubes built up of several lengths which can be taken apart, cross-pieces having sleeves fitting over the side tubes and feet, feet on the end sections of the side tubes, and a cable connecting the feet and ends which is put in tension when the stretcher is lifted. The side tubes are in four sections, three of which have thinner tubes fixed in one end to fit into the ends of adjacent sections. The two ends of the side tubes and the feet are connected by cross-bars having sleeves g<1>, f<1> which fit with slight friction over the side tubes and feet. The sleeves of the rear cross-bar abut against collars g', and the sleeves f<1> against collars e<1>. The front cross-bar is secured by cotters g<2>. Cables n, passed under the crossbars of the feet or through the feet, are secured by means of rings and swivel hooks to the sleeves g<1>. Or the cables may extend only between the legs, or they may be arranged as shown at n<1> and secured by rings to the centre of the side tubes. Inclined bars k connected at their ends by a detachable cross-bar l are supported on the side tubes by sliding sleeves k<1>. The canvas may be secured at the front end either to the bar l or to the front cross-bar. A curved cross-bar stays the side tubes at the centre. Stirrups for supporting an awning may also be secured in a similar manner to the bars k. When taken to pieces, the stretcher is packed in a pocket underneath the canvas.
