Starting.-Gas and like engines are started by introducing a charge of petrol &c. through the suction valve and a second charge behind the valve before the ignition switch is closed in order to give two explosive impulses in succession. The petrol charges may be introduced by hand or by a pump. When a pump is used the supply of petrol may be continued for more than two impulses. Specification 12,045/00 is referred to.
