Dash-pots.-Relates to door closing and checking devices of the kind in which the check is provided with an adjustable valve for regulating the strength of the check, and also with a relief valve to allow the closing of the door to be accelerated by a person passing through. According to the invention, the passages containing the adjustable valve and relief valve are arranged parallel to the check cylinder. The check d comprises the piston chamber m, Fig. 3, and parallel side passages containing the adjustable valve r and relief valve s. The check piston n is loosely connected to the rod e to allow free passage of the checking-liquid during the inward stroke of the piston, temporary enlargement of the cylinder to allow a quick opening of the door being provided for in known manner by a spring-pressed U-leather p.
