Abstract

Blackboards.-In blackboards of the kind pivoted upon and capable of swinging around a vertical standard fixed upon a wall, so that the board can be raised to any height or set at any desired angle, the board 4 is balanced by means of a counterweight 10 enclosed in the vertical standard 1, the connecting- cord 9 passing over a pulley 11 attached to a bracket 12 which is pivoted to a second bracket 13 mounted on the standard. The bracket 12 is further supported by a guide-rod 14, which is connected to the standard by a swivelling collar 15, .forms a guide for the blackboard, and prevents lateral strain on the cord 9. The board is adapted to be locked on the standard at any suitable height or inclination by means of split collars 5 carrying cam-shaped locking-members 6. An adjustable shelf 23, for supporting models &c., is mounted in front of the board and connected thereto by means of dowel pins 22 inserted in holes 20 in metal plates 21 attached to the board.
