Planes, construction of; steering and balancing.- In aeroplanes having the main planes provided at their extremities with steering- flaps of variable area, these flaps are composed of series of strips pivoted to the main plane and to parallel link-work so that, when drawn in, they overlap each other like scales. Fig. 2 shows a main plane 2 provided with series of strips 1, which are are arranged transversely of the machine and pivoted at 3, 4, 5 to the plane and also to parallel rods 6. In a modification, the strips are disposed longitudinally of the machine, the rods 6 being pivoted to the plane 2.
