Abstract

29,026. Spiers, W., and Gibbs, G. H. Dec. 14. Circular machines.-In machines of the type having two needle-cylinders placed end to end, the top cylinder is carried by an arm 1, and is held stationary against the pull of the rotary ribber arm b by means of crossed bolts 8 mounted in slide-ways in the upper end 10 of the cylinder spindle. The ends of the bolts 8 engage slots 12 in a stationary ring 13, but the bolts are withdrawn in turn from engagement therewith to allow the thread-guide 4 to pass, by means of a rotary cam 14 acting on butts 15 on the undersides of the bolts. The threadguide 4 and cam 14 rotate with the ribber arm b. In a modified form, the rotary ribber arm cap, Fig. 6, carries two pinions 31, 35 of the same size, geared together, the pinion 31 also gearing with a pinion 26 on the cylinder spindle, and on the axle of the pinion 35 is mounted a pinion 34 gearing with a fixed annular wheel 28. The arrangement of the gearing is such that no movement is imparted to the cylinder spindle. The ring 13 carries a lug 19 held in position between set-screws on a block 20. The top cylinder can be adjusted circumferentially by shifting the block 20 along a rib 23 on which it is mounted.
