23,691. Boult, A. J., [Davis Milk Machinery Co.]. Oct. 12. Bottling.-A machine for filling milk and like bottles or holders comprises a tank having a number of depending self-closing nozzles surmounting a vertically adjustable and movable table supporting the vessels to be filled. Each nozzle comprises a filling-tube 15, Fig. 5, with ports 19 communicating with a chamber 56 formed by a spring- controlled sleeve 25 which telescopes t h e tube and normally rests on a seating 29 on the upper side of a conical nozzle 28 on the lower end of the tube 15. The nozzle 28 is formed with air-ports 30 communicating with a central vent-tube 24. The air-ports are generally of oval shape with their narrower extremities terminating near the pointed end of the nozzle. The upper side of the nozzle 28, together with a flange 23 on the tube 15, form a deflecting- surface to direct liquid to the sides of the vessel. The means for raising the bottles comprises a table 36, Fig. 3, guided vertically and operated by a lever 48 through a rock-shaft 45 and a yoke 46 engaging notches in a spring-retracted swinging frame 39. The table is held in raised position by a pawl 51 on the lever 48 engaging a toothed arc 52. To adapt the machine for bottles of different sizes, the yoke 46 is changed from one notch to another, the frame being forced out of engagement with the yoke by means of a stirrup 44. A tight joint with the bottles is made by means of a sealing-cap 31 which may be replaced by a larger one where cylindrical boxes for milk have to be filled.
