Abstract

22,327. Pond, E. M. Sept. 26. Plasters; splints. - A medical plaster comprises a waterproof backing 2, Fig. 2, of rubber, oiled silk, or waxed paper, and a thick layer, 1, of a mixture of glycerine and gelatine containing at least 70 per cent of glycerine. A layer of gauze or other absorbent 3 is embedded in the mixture. The gauze may be replaced by, or used in addition to, layers of cotton-wadding with which an absorbent powder such as kaolin may also be used. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the layers 1, 2 are perforated and an absorbent layer 4 and waterproof backing 6 are added. A sheet of wire-cloth may be embedded in the plaster so that it may serve as a splint. Medicaments may be added to the mixture of glycerine and gelatine.
