Squares.-In drawing-squares, of the type in which a stock is employed carrying a slotted blade secured by means of a thumb-screw tapped into the stock, the thumb-screw is replaced by a quick - threaded screw c passing through the blade b and carried by one portion a<1> of the stock in a tapered hole d, and engaged by a nut e within or upon the other portion a of the stock. The nut has an arm f<1> and a lever g is connected to this arm, so that, by manipulation of the finger-piece h, the nut may be given a partial rotation and the blade b clamped.
