Abstract

7154. Siemens Bros. & Co., [Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges.]. March 22. Order apparatus.-The circuits controlled by an order-telegraph transmitter are kept closed independently of the motions of the transmitter for a sufficient time to allow the desired operation to take place at the receiver, by a device at the transmitter which retards the opening of the circuit after it has once been closed. In the example shown in Fig. 2, which illustrates an order telegraph of the type in which connected armatures of the transmitter G and the receivers E, E<1> tend to assume similar positions in similar alternating fields, the movement of the transmitter effects through a star-wheel r the closure of a contact k controlling brake devices kl, kl<1> which prevent the over-rotation of the receivers. The arm of the contact k is connected in such a manner to a retarding- device, such as an escapement or fly w, that the closing motion of the contact is not hindered, but the opening of the contact is retarded until the receivers having completed their motion, the brakes may be put out of action. The brake kl, under the influence of the alternating current flowing in the magnet m, is intermittently applied on a disk u on the receiver shaft, and thereby prevents the receiver armature from moving quickly and over-running. The brake kl<1> of the receiver E<1> is similar, but also serves to hold the receiver armature in the position in which it has been placed. Such retarding- devices may be applied to control the circuits of the transmitters in systems in which continuous-current for moving the receivers is obtained from adjustable brushes which bear on the commutator of a continuous-current motor or motor generator. Specifications 16,450 /03 and 378 /06 are referred to.
