Abstract

4907. Farny, J. L. March 1, 1909, [Convention date]. Converting alternating and direct currents. -An alternator having field poles 7, 23 of unequal dimensions, as shown in Fig. 4, and producing an electromotive force wave of the form shown in Fig. 1, may be used in conjunction with an are or an evacuated tube to produce an intermittent unidirectional current. Alternatively, an almost constant current may be obtained in a resistance by connecting the resistance in parallel with a condenser or accumulator and in series with a spark-gap, the extremities of the combination being connected to the supply.
