Abstract

4330. Steuer, E. Feb. 21. Tanks and containers. - Matter deposited is guided down the inclined bottom of a settling- tank 1 into a channel 3, which is provided with a closing - device and with a valve - controlled sediment outlet 13. As shown in Fig. 1, the closing-device comprises flaps 4 opened or closed by means of a common actuating-member 6, rod 7, and hand-wheel 8. When deposit has accumulated in the channel 3, the flaps are closed, and the valve 14 is opened, and the deposit is discharged by the pressure of the liquid in the tank acting on a piston 16. The piston is returned to its original position by means of a cord 17. As shown in Fig. 3, the channel 3 is inclined, and the closing-device consists of a roof-like member 18 hinged at 19 and having inclined plates 22 fixed to it. An aperture 12 is provided, through which water enters the channel to discharge the deposit.
