Abstract

1215. English, L. R. Jan. 17. Washing - machines with enclosed rotary receptacles.-The rotary perforated drum is provided on its peripheral exterior with a number of circumferential rows of pockets, some of which are open in one direction and the others in the reverse direction. The drum 8 is composed of end plates 9, a central plate 32 and a series of cross-bars which support the perforated plates 36 forming the-periphery of the drum. The tapering pockets, shown in Fig. 6, are arranged so that some 42 take up liquid during rotation in one direction, while the remainder 43 act similarly during the reverse rotation. The drum is automatically reversed at intervals by means of a belt-shifting lever 29 oscillated by worm gearing driven from the main shaft 14. The lower arm of the lever is bifurcated, and the limbs are engaged alternately by an inclined lug on the worm-wheel 28.
