Abstract

28,826. Wise, F. Dec. 9. Liquid supply controlled by motion of gas-holder; generators supplied with liquid successively; purifying gases.-The water-supply of an acetylene-generator is regulated by the rise and fall of a pipe f, Fig. 3, carried by the gas-bell c. The pipe works in a cylinder k, and is perforated at the bottom, so as to take water from the tank a or an overhead supply-tank, the water leaving the pipe by a neck g. When the bell is in its lowest position, the tube f rests on a valve m and closes it, but the apparatus may be started by pouring water into the generators. Two or more generators are used, arranged so that, when one is exhausted, the water fills one side of the supply-trough 3, Fig. 4, and rocks the device 13, causing the water to pass into the second generator. The generators consist of a casing q, Fig. 1, with an inner lining r, and the space between these two parts is filled with water in which a cap s dips. The carbide is placed in cages y superposed in a holder v, and the water from the trough 3, fills the space between the holder v and the lining r, and overflows into the carbidereceptacle through a hole w. The gas passes either through the water-seal 5, Fig. 5, in the cap 4, or through pipes 6, and is led by a pipe 7, through a scrubber 8 into the gas-bell c.
