Abstract

Jib cranes.-In a jib crane which can be slued while the load is being lifted, the jib and the vertical winding-drum 1 are carried on the turntable 27, the motor and the rest of the gear and the operator being stationary. The shaft 3 of the winding-drum extends through the turntable pivot, and is driven through bevel-gearing, two-speed spur gearing, and a friction clutch 13 from the motor shaft 18. The turntable is independently rotated by an endless rope 35 driven through a friction clutch from the shaft 18. The fixed frame 6 carries an upper bearing 5 for the winding drum. A brake drum is provided on the shaft 3 below the turntable. In a modification, the winding-drum is horizontal, and is driven by bevel-gearing from the vertical shaft 3. In this case, the drum is provided with a brake operated by means of a rod passing centrally through the shaft 3.
