Abstract
22,728. Ogle, P. J. Oct. 5. Vanning - machines.-In a vanning- machine having a longitudinally riffled endless travelling belt which is given a varying transverse inclination and a vanning motion, the riffles are so shaped that there is no damming @ when the belt has its maximum cross-fall. The belt d is stretched around rolhrs b, b<1>, b<2>, mounted on a frame a, to which a circular or other suitable motion is imparted from a shaft h. The relative inclination and position of the rollers are adjustable. The belt is driven by chain and worm gearing from the shaft h. The riffles d<1> are shaped as shown in Fig. 5. The pulp is fed on to the higher side of the belt d for a portion of its length, and wash water more or less along the remainder, the transverse inclination of the belt being small at the feed end and greater at the delivery end. Gangue is washed off the lower side of the belt, and the concentrates are carried over the drum b<2> and may pass into a receptacle p containing liquid.
