Abstract
22,640. Burns, A. Oct. 5. [Cognate Application 1476/10.] Arc lamps.-In the continuous-arc method of producing electro - mag - netic, radiations, a number of small arcs are used in series and arranged in the form of a ring. The arcs are placed in the field of a magnet carrying rapidly alternating current. Two sets of arcs A, B are shown in parallel. The magnet C, also shown in Fig. 2, consists of a number of segments separated by non-magnetic material a and wound so as to have the same polarity in each segment at any half period. Any of the windings may be short-circuited as at b. The electrodes are water-cooled, and the arcs are formed in a chamber containing hydrocarbon gas under pressure. The lower electrodes are separately adjustable.
