Casting processes; mould and core materials.- In casting articles around strengthening wroughtiron or like bars, plates, &c., the bars &c. are dipped successively into an adhesive and a powder, giving the insert a non-conductive coating which protects it from the action of the molten metal. The adhesive may consist of fish glue or of an animal, vegetable, or mineral oil, such as black oil, and the powder of graphite, aluminium, charcoal, coke breeze, coal, mineral paint, red lead, bauxite, chromite, magnesia, lime, lime-stone, alumina, siloxicon, silica, clay, slag, glass, dolomite, magnesite, white lead, carbide of silicon, brick, ganister, soapstone, sand, crucibles, mica schist, asbestos, cement, kaolin, china, porcelain, or other metallic powder, oxide, silicate or carbonate or a mixture thereof.
